From an early age, Jahaira Yosely Cardona Manueles has been exposed to cultures of farming through her father’s inherited coffee farm. After completing her business administration degree, Jahaira aquired her own farm, La Bendición. First few years were dedicated to enriching the soil with organic compost, foliar and rock sand. Next was planting shade trees such as calliandra and bananas to prevent direct sunlight onto coffee crops. She produces a wide range of varieties (Catuai, Parainema, Lempira, Geisha etc) across multiple processing methods in order to achieve her vision of producing coffees that are competitive in both national and international markets.

Her produce are stamped with a COSMA (Cafe Organico Marcala) stamp. This is an association created by 62 farmers in 2000 to reform the way coffee was treated, many of whom are of the indigenous Lenca tribe heritage. This association looks after many of the processes of coffee production - from carbon sequestration to recycling of waste water. On top of this, her coffee are also stamped with Hands of Woman Coffee, Organic Coffee and Fair-trade certifications.

The results of her persistent efforts can be easily recognised in the cup profile. On top of the traditional brown sugar ‘coffee’ flavours, fresh and tart raspberry acidity is the first thing that hits your tastebud sensations. After that is a sweet linger of freshly baked cinnamon apple pie!
